MENTAL HEALTH & SPIRITUALITY IN THE ARMENIAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH
In the Armenian Apostolic Church, faith has always been a source of comfort and strength, especially during hard times. For young people today, mental health challenges like anxiety and stress about work or school are becoming more common, and the Armenian Church offers some spiritual tools to help with these everyday struggles. Prayer isn’t just a ritual, it’s a moment to breathe, reflect, and reconnect with God. When we light a candle or stand quietly during Badarak (Divine Liturgy), we’re invited to slow down and find peace in God’s presence.
Also, the Armenian Church teaches the importance of community, being surrounded by people who care for you. Whether it’s family, friends, or members of the Church, all these relationships remind us that healing often happens together. Talking to Hayr Soorp or Der Hayr can bring not just spiritual guidance, but emotional support too.
Many young Armenians are learning that faith and mental health go hand-in-hand. Taking care of your mind and heart isn’t and shouldn’t be separate from your spiritual life, it should be interconnected together. In the end, the Church reminds us that God loves us fully, even when we’re struggling in our daily lives, and that praying for guidance, reflecting about your past, and having a community that supports you in your future, can bring light into the toughest of days. Faith doesn’t erase mental health challenges, it gives us hope, meaning, and strength to face them.
